Planning chief Syd Collard was at the centre of a fresh row today as Labour Whips were called in over his controversial remarks on the proposed new multi million pound stand at Valley Parade.
The 82-year-old Great Horton ward councillor was branded a "maverick" by a senior colleague, who asked the controlling group whips to investigate his stance. The row has erupted after Coun Collard voted against a planning application for the stand, calling it a monstrosity.
Today assistant Labour Whip Councillor Tony Niland said a meeting would be held to decide if action was needed. He said he believed Coun Collard had been out of order.
And Coun Collard - chairman of Bradford Area Planning Panel - came under unprecedented fire today from Councillor Jim O'Neill, a member of the council's new high powered executive.
Coun Collard and Coun Eileen McNally (Lab, Undercliffe ) voted against a planning application for the £7 million stand which would have extended the capacity at Valley Parade by 25,000. It was approved by the then Bradford Area Planning Sub-committee.
Coun O'Neill, executive member for homes and environment, said: "This was a maverick outburst which in no way represents my own feelings. I am seeking an urgent meeting with the Whips and asking for an investigation into his remarks."
Coun Collard was not available to comment.
