Villagers in Addingham have been asked to pledge a pound to complete the funding for the George Street Millennium project.
The village civic society has spent the past 12 months raising funds for its scheme to re-surface George Street.
Members decided early last year that the much-used street, which leads to the village post office, was desperately in need of an overhaul.
The plan is to lay Yorkshire stone and a number of setts to restore the street to its former glory.
The scheme has received backing from George Street residents and businesses alike. However, the cost is about £9,000 and although civic society members are delighted they have raised about half the total, they still need further contributions.
The George Street team is waiting to hear whether its bid for Millennium Awards For All funding has been successful, but they are determined to press ahead.
Jane Scott, vice chairman of the civic society, has already praised villagers for their support and said work on the project could start as early as the Spring.
Former chairman Don Barrett said: "I would also thank everyone who has contributed to the scheme. After a slow start it is now gathering momentum. With about 3,000 people living in the village, just think what a difference it would make if everyone donated £1."
Mr Barrett said it was important to note this particular millennium scheme was practical rather than simply decorative.
"It is a part of the village used by many people, so it really is very worthwhile," he said.
