A one-way road system for a narrow street is set to be shelved after residents failed to agree which way traffic should travel.
Members of the Nova Tenants and Residents Association of Birstall sent a petition into Kirklees Council last summer demanding a one-way system to ease snarl-ups in Oxford Road.
But traffic officers want to dump the plan after questionnaires sent to residents were returned with seven people wanting traffic to travel one direction, and three in the other. Nine others failed to return the questionnaire. Councillor Brian Snelson (Con, Birstall, Birkenshaw) said: "It needs to be looked at, this is a narrow road and the problem won't just go away. We just need to make a bit more effort to get a discussion going in the community and it could be sorted out."
A decision about whether to axe the one-way plan was due to be made at a meeting of the Highways and Transportation Service Management Board today.
