Paul Jewell is looking for a big improvement from his Bradford City side when they entertain the Premiership's glamour club Chelsea tomorrow.

Victory would see the Bantams jump out of the relegation places as their clash is the only top flight fixture of the weekend.

City slipped into the bottom three after the 1-0 defeat at fellow strugglers Southampton with Jewell unhappy at what he saw as a lack of bravery from his side in attacking positions.

The City boss said: "It was disappointing to lose at Southamp-ton but we are facing Chelsea tomorrow. That should be enough to get any professional fired up.

"We have not scored for three games and that is a concern. It is always harder to score when you go up a league but we need to start improving going forward.

"That is not a criticism of the strikers, it is the whole side. I am looking for an improvement on the Southampton game where we really should have tested the keeper more.

"There is no excuse for not doing that. We need more desire and need to get in where it hurts to score goals.

"It is easy for people to blame the strikers. What tends to happen at football clubs is that when the goals aren't going in, the defence blame the strikers. And if a club is conceding goals, the attackers blame the defence.

"It is not as simple as that and I have told the players this is a team game. The centre halves go up for corners so they have responsibilities to test the keeper as well.

"I am not going to single anyone out but we know we have to do better as a team."

City have striker Isaiah Rankin available again after completing his three-game suspension while Lee Sharpe is also fit again after coming off at half-time at The Dell due to illness.

Jewell said: "Sharpe was ill during half-time. He has been off for a couple of days since then but was back in training yesterday and is available."

Chairman Geoffrey Richmond today dismissed reports that City were poised to make a bid for Sheffield Wednesday's former Huddersfield Town striker Andy Booth as speculation.

He said: "I think they are re-cycling a story from 12 months ago.

"We made an offer for Andy Booth at the start of last season before we bought Lee Mills. That was turned down at the time. At this moment it is simply speculation."
