Local firms are being urged to look at making trade links with Iceland.

Companies are being invited to take part in a trade mission there later this year, organised by Business Link Bradford & District.

Helen Downer of Business Link says: "Iceland is often neglected by exporters in the UK, which is a shame because the Icelandic market appreciates British goods with their reputation for high quality. Many opportunities exist there, as almost everything is imported."

A recent mission to Iceland resulted in orders for companies like Airedale Rollers, who were surprised to find there were 102 firms in their target field. They have already signed a distributor agreement for their rubber and polyurethane coated rollers for use in the printing, textile and food industries.

Orn Valdimarsson of the British Embassy in Reykjavik says: "The mission from Business Link in November was a great success. Many of the companies that came over got orders, and those that didn't are optimistic of success this year.

"I would recommend any company to investigate the opportunities in Iceland - they could be in for a surprise."

Business Link intend organising a trade mission to Iceland in the second half of the year, as well as one to Ireland in May. Any company interested in joining an overseas mission or wanting any assistance with exporting should contact Sam Grundy at Business Link on 01274 751385.
