Amateur Rugby League: Birkenshaw produced their best performance of the season to send Premier Division Moldgreen crashing out in the second round of the Pennine President's Cup.
Hosts Birkenshaw raced into an early lead with a try from wingman Brandon Robinson, converted by Glen Tillotson.
Scrum half Phil Smith was then on hand to cross following a 40-metre break from forward Paul Bancroft which, together with a Tillotson penalty, eased them further in front at 12-0.The visitors though hit back strongly to level at 12-12 by the break.
Straight from the re-start Birkenshaw full back Morton Robinson raced the length of the field to score, and added his second shortly afterwards when he pounced on a Dave Turpin grubber kick.
Lively stand-off Turpin sealed the game with two long-range efforts of his own, which, together with two more Tillotson goals, put Birkenshaw in the last 16 for the first time.
Clayton, as expected, proved to have too much firepower for Siddal A in posting a 42-16 win at The Delph.
The Villagers went 12-0 up thanks to two tries from scrum half Adam Mitchell, which he converted. Then they allowed Siddal to come back and turn round 16-12 in front at half-time.
Prop Danny Murgatroyd got things back on an even keel by racing 60 metres to the posts, which, with a brace from Darren Collins and the usual effort from Chris Parr, wrapped up the match.
Mitchell punished Siddal with a string of penalties to finish up with nine successful kicks. Loose forward Richard Wood was outstanding for Clayton.
Queensbury lost the re-run of last season's final 19-5 at home to Elland, and were in trouble as early as the fifth minute when they lost play-making loose forward Danny Wilcock with a pulled thigh muscle.
All they could muster was a solitary drop goal from player-coach Martin Potts in a sluggish first half, and trailed 14-1 at the break. They picked themselves up on the re-start and posted a try from scrum half Carl Smith on the hour.
Their challenge came to an end though when stand-off Lee Charlton was sent to the sin-bin for disputing a decision, and Elland took advantage to score a late try. Forwards Gary Prentice and Luke Cooper were Queensbury's best.
Wyke had a splendid 9-4 win at Slaith-waite Saracens. Wingman Paul Metcalfe was the hero with a try, two goals, and a drop goal.
Shipley lost 46-16 at home to Lindley Swifts in a score that indicates a one-sided match, but nothing could be further from the truth. Shipley rocked the Premier side by taking a 16-4 lead in the first 20 minutes thanks to tries from John Askham, Dave Williams, and Tony Parkinson, two of which were converted by Darren Ellerton.
They continued to play good football and turned round 16-14 up. The Huddersfield side's pace took its toll in the second half, but they will not forget their visit to the Division Five outfit in a hurry.
West Bowling A went on a spree 58-26 at home to Victoria Vikings. Tries came from Steve Gregory (2), Mick Gorman (2), Mark Dunning, Chris Scott, Dean Gar-side, Ryan Hunkin, Steve Carter and Wesley Brearton. Jason Woolham scored a try and kicked seven goals.
In Division Five, Victoria Rangers gave their worst display of the season, but still managed to take the spoils 12-7 at home to Morley Borough. Veteran Dave Royston scored a rare try to open their account, but they still turned round 7-6 in arrears. Forward Craig Michael made the game safe when he powered under the posts. Phil Greenwood converted both.
In the second round of the Shipley Trophy West Bowling B won 13-10 at Drighlington.
