For Abi Ekoku the switch to Bradford Bulls may be a good career move. Anyone in his shoes would no doubt echo his words that he is honoured, flattered and excited about the approach, and the new job.

As for Bulls chairman Chris Caisley, this act of head-hunting may also be of great benefit to the club.

But at Cougar Park the bitter disappointment is understandable - just ten weeks after they gave Ekoku his break he has rewarded them with treachery.

There's no prizes for guessing what was said by some when he made the announcement to the players and support team. Integrity, loyalty, fair play and teamwork would have been on the lips of many.

But a fair question to ask is exactly what has Ekoku achieved since he took up the post of managing director? We've heard plenty of fine words!

"We know we are stepping away from the top tier, but we don't expect to be away from the top for too long," he said on his appointment along with Karl Harrison.

We thought he meant taking Cougars to the top - not just himself. Thankfully Karl is keeping his part of the deal.

Only the hardened cynic would suspect that his move to a hole in the ground in Bradford may have anything to do with the hopes and aspirations of some to see Bulls and Cougars become one.

Perish the thought - but if that were ever to be a hope then moves such as that of Ekoku will hardly endear the Bulls to the hearts of the loyal and dedicated Cougars fans.

As for Cougars, it is yet another blow. But like many clubs, groups and organisations in Keighley they will ride out the storm and move onwards and upwards.
