Bingley Harriers are organising the West Yorkshire Sportshall Athletics selection meeting on February 19 to encourage young athletes to take up the sport -- with a chance of representing West Yorkshire in the North East regional finals to be held on Teeside in March.
Last year a record three West Yorkshire teams made it through the regional event to the National Finals at the Indoor Arena in Birmingham and came home with seven national medals.
"We would like to see as many children as possible from local schools taking part to help us pick strong teams and do even better this year," said organiser Christine Oates.
Sportshall Athletics was developed an enjoyable way of taking part in track and field competitions in an indoor and safe environment. Boys and girls aged 11 and under-15 on August 31, 1999 can take part either as a member of a school group or as individuals. The entry fee is £1 and registration for the selection meeting starts at 1.30pm at Bingley Grammar School on February 19.
Anyone who wants to get involved in Sportshall Athletics before the main meeting can take part in sessions run by Bingley Harriers on Tuesday evenings from 7-8pm (Under-11's) and 8-9pm (under-15's). Full details are available from Christine Oates on 01274-416286.
