COUGARS were searching for a new chief executive this week -- after Abi Ekoku handed in his resignation.

The former Bradford Bulls player has been 'poached' to take over the reigns at his old club, but is to stay at Keighley for at least the next month.

Speaking exclusively to KN Sport he said: "In many ways it was not an easy decision, I agonised over it because I truly believe that the Cougars have a big future.

"But opportunities like this don't come up in sport very often. The last person to have the Bradford job had been at the club, in various positions, for 18 years. In the end I just had to take the opportunity that had presented itself. I will be here at Cougar Park for at least another month and hope to ensure a smooth transition with my succesor. It was never my intention to jump ship."

He is also expected to play a big part in selecting the new man to take over the helm at Keighley and has already made recomendations to club owner Hami Patel and managing director, Bob Chapman.

Although the identities of people being considered are being kept a closely guarded secret they include big names from the game.

"Although people from outside rugby league could be administrators, I think it is essential that they have a knowlege of rugby league and a passion for the game," he said.

On the field coach Karl Harrison has called for a big performance from his team for Sunday's home match against Hull KR which kicks off at 2.45pm.

"Obviously it is avery big game for us. My aim was to win our first four matches and after the win at Batley last week we are three quarters of the way there. A number of our players will be up against their old team mates so they will be up for it," he said.
