It had been dubbed by some as City's most important game of the season to date. Unfortunately City's performance did not match the occasion and they surrendered tamely to a defeat which could have costly repercussions as the season goes on.

The large army of travelling Bantams fans were 'treated' to a complete non-performance from City which, coming just a few days after the Gillingham game, is cause for concern.

City started quite brightly and could easily have been in front after 20 minutes but their performance deteriorated from then on.

It was particularly frustrating as Wednesday looked a very poor team. However, as the game went on Wednesday looked more and more like scoring. They hit the woodwork three times in the first half but this was still not enough to wake City up.

Eventually Alexandersson fired Wednesday ahead and an Andy O'Brien own goal settled matters.

It wasn't the defeat that hurt but the manner of it. If City had gone down fighting it would have been easier to take.

The Wednesday game can join the growing list of non-City performances that worryingly seem only to occur against teams near them in the league.

City won't stay up getting heroic draws against Chelsea - it is these games that matter most.
