Bradford and District FA Saturday Senior Cup: Bradford Moor YSA produced a major upset in the quarter-finals by beating West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division Wibsey in a penalty shoot-out.
Wibsey, who won the trophy in 1998 and were runners-up last season, were favourites to reach their third successive semi-final when they entertained the Grattan League First Division side at Harold Park.
Wibsey were unbeaten at home in the Premier Division this season, although they had been beaten in the League Cup by Golcar United and by Salt Old Boys in the County FA Challenge Cup.
They started the game in a lively fashion and deservedly went 1-0 ahead through Carl Storey.
Bradford Moor YSA, who have already booked a place in the last eight of the County FA Challenge Trophy, refused to be overrun, however. They defended well against their higher-league opponents and won a penalty after 70 minutes.
Mohammed Asif saw his shot saved by Wibsey goalkeeper John Hawkes. But Hawkes was unable to hold on to the ball and Asif netted from the rebound to equalise for the Grattan League side.
Wibsey piled on the pressure, but found Moor's keeper Itlas Ahmed equal to all their efforts.
Extra time came, but neither side could find the extra goal to win the game and the tie went to penalties. As both sides converted their penalties amid mounting tension, it fell to the Moor's keeper Ahmed to save Wibsey's seventh spot kick to give his side a 7-6 victory.
Campion had little trouble in reaching the semi-finals with a 5-1 home victory over fellow County Amateur side Dudley Hill Rangers, Paul Ferralong (3) and Andy Yates (2) scoring before Grant Cooper netted Rangers' consolation.
Sandy Lane, from the West Yorkshire League, made sure of a second successive semi-final place, Lee Watson, Alan Nevison and Danny Bolton scoring in their 3-2 victory over Grattan League club Woodend Rangers.
Lane looked menacing going in 1-0 up at half time. Watson put them ahead and they also hit the woodwork four times before the interval.
The second half went much the same as the first half with Sandy Lane hitting the woodwork again before Nevison tapped in their second goal.
Woodend then enjoyed their best spell and scored with a well-worked goal.
This stung Sandy Lane into making a double change, and straight away substitute Danny Bolton made it 3-1 with a screaming shot. Gavin Collins scored a late consolation for Woodend.
lThe only Bradford & District Sunday Senior Cup game to survive the frost was the West Bowling v Oakenshaw fourth round clash at Emsley's Recreation Ground. The First Division side matched their opponents until the game's 30th minute when Craig Lawford's snap-shot put Oakenshaw ahead.
Oakenshaw edged it in the second half and, after Bowling had been unlucky not to score when a shot was tipped on to the bar and seemed to drop over the line, Oakenshaw went immediately to the other end and Karl Gray turned effectively to hit a good second goal.
In the Bradford Sunday Cup fifth round, Wyke Wanderers managed to get their game at home to Calverley Victoria Reserves played and were rewarded with a 5-1 triumph. Andy Beckwith and Wayne Jones grabbed two each and James Lambert scored the fifth to take Wyke into the semi-finals.
