A plan to turn 18th Century stables in Otley into flats for elderly people has been approved.

Following a visit to the site by members of the Leeds Development Control Panel (west), permission was given to convert the now derelict Grade II-listed Manor House stables and barn at Manor Square.

The historic stables and barn will be altered to form two dwellings and two flats. And two extra flats will be built on the site.

Councillor Jim McKenna (Lab, Armley) said after he had visited the site: "I am now fully able to fully appreciate what this scheme is going to contribute to this area. It will certainly be a worthwhile addition."

Councillor Phil Coyne (Lab, Otley & Wharfedale), who called for the visit, also welcomed the plans, which include minor internal revisions.

Otley Town Council supported the application in principle but suggested the need for more off-street car parking.
