Fan power helped bring midfielder Craig Ramage to Notts County earlier this season.

The former England Under-21 international had left City last summer after playing little part in the club's promotion success with just three appearances from the bench.

Ramage had arrived at Valley Parade from Watford with a reputation as a goalscoring midfielder but his touch in front of goal deserted him during his two years with City.

After being released, Ramage was snapped up by Notts County on a month-to-month contract and impressed during the opening few games of the season.

The fans and then manager Sam Allardyce were keen to sign Ramage but lack of funds proved the major problem for County despite the player being a free agent.

However the Meadow Lane board hit upon a novel idea to try and secure the 29-year-old and they told the fans that Ramage could be signed if they agreed to pay an extra £1 being put on all admission prices at Meadow Lane.

Because he had proved so popular and helped County into the promotion race, the move was warmly welcomed and Ramage was subsequently handed a two-year contract.

He has gone on to enjoy a successful start to County's season and has played 30 league and cup games, scoring six goals.
