Crime prevention officers are hoping to revive the Policeman's Ball which disappeared from Keighley twenty years ago.
The Ball used to be one of the town's major annual events and now officers are hoping to restart it to raise funds.
The idea was put forward by PC Steve Littlewood, Neighbourhood Watch officer.
"The Policeman's Ball was the focal point of the year. It was well supported by local dignitaries and attracted between three and four hundred people to the Victoria Hotel. It was one of the main social events of the year," said PC Littlewood
"But about twenty years ago, it stopped and hasn't reappeared. I thought it might be a good idea to revive it as a means of raising funds for the crime prevention panel's initiatives."
He is now looking to gauge the support for the idea from both people and businesses.
The crime prevention unit's initiatives include the recent distribution of 4,000 leaflets warning of the dangers of car crime.
Anyone interested in reviving the Ball can contact PC Steve Littlewood or PC Adrian Foyston on (01535) 617041.
