Wetherby 4
Pool Res 2
Pool Reserves visited Wetherby knowing this was a crucial fixture with both teams in the top four.
This was highlighted with the opening 20 minutes providing a game of total commitment with Pool having the majority of the play and creating several chances which went begging.
The first attack from Wetherby saw Pool stretched and a cross was deflected in to give the home side the lead. This failed to affect Pool's commitment and a well-worked move involving Firth, Carlton and Reddington saw Graham slide the ball home past the helpless 'keeper.
Pool again had the majority of play and pressed for a further goal until two clinical strikes saw Wetherby go ahead at 3-1.
After having only three clear chances Wetherby had scored three goals.
The second-half was much the same as the first with the Pool back four of Firth, Newbould, Shippey and Dobson giving no quarter and feeding their eager midfield to take the game to Wetherby.
This pressure again created numerous chances which were either denied by a resolute defence or lacked a final quality ball. This was resolved when Graham put Joyce in from close range and at this point the game was there for the taking.
Again a lack of quality final ball and finish allowed Wetherby to use the final 30 minutes to spoil Pool's play and generally frustrate a quality team performance with cyncial challenges not picked up on by the referee. Reddington hit a post, Joyce fired wide and Graham needed a bit more composure infront of goal as Pool chances went begging.
A final push for an equaliser let in Wetherby for their fourth goal which sealed an undeserved win. Pool will be looking for revenge in the cup in three weeks time.
Match point went to Dave Newbould who gave a resolute defensive performance.
Pool A...............1
Unison..............0
This game was transferred to Pool as the Harrogate Stray was waterlogged. Unison started brightly making good clear openings and they should have opened the scoring but for some poor shooting.
Pool eventually got going and created chances with Trimnell and Chris Wilkinson both going close. Some good passing and running by Ireland and Kitchen created endless chances for Pool but they just could not find the net.
Unison still pressed but some good challenges from Jones and Boulton prevented them from scoring.
Little else happened in the first-half and there was no score at the break.
Pool started the second-half brightly and pushed forward trying to create the first goal. Some tough challenges by Pool produced a number of free-kicks for Unison but nothing came of them. Pool's best chance came when Wilkinson drove a corner across for Jones to head on to Trimnell who decided not to shoot and instead got tackled and lost the ball.
Eventually the breakthrough came when Wilkinson flicked the ball over his head and continued his run before crossing for Trimnell who saw Taylor in space and gave him the opportunity to fire home. Newns was booked for a two-footed challenge and was lucky not to be sent off. Unison continued to press but a solid back four of Newns, Jones, Boulton and Groves prevented Unison from scoring.
Match point went to Kitchen for all the effort he put into the game.
