MAGUIRES came close to getting their first point of the season in a close encounter at Boltmakers in the Premier Division.
Mark Thompson gave the home side a first half lead, and although both sides had their chances they were unable to put any away.
At the top of the First Division Carters had to come from behind at Bolton Villas when Nigel Long scored an early goal for the home team. After going 2-1 up at half time, Carters scored three more before Garry Wallace hammered home a late consolation effort for Villas. Carters scorers were Dave Warne with two and one each for Darren Lamiot, Paul Carey and Tim O'Donnell.
Glen House came from 3-0 down at home to Victoria 2000 to equalise with goals from Simon Dawson, Dominic Bartle and Christian Pix, then scored an own goal with just five minutes left to give Victoria the points.
JPL also snatched victory in the dying stages of their match against Bay Horse. Andy Armitage gave Horse the lead in the first half and Matt Bower put them back ahead a second time after Adam Goldsmith had equalised. Andy Cool put JPL back on level terms again and although both sides had chances to win, it was Leighton shackleton who bundled the ball past the impressive Dave Epson to give JPL victory.
Malt shovel had a comfortable win over Shoulder of Mutton by scoring four in each half. Andy Thornton scored four and there was one each for Mick Melyon, Dave Symonds, Rory Foster and Stuart Copley as they cruised to an 8-1 victory.
