A MILLENNIUM project to resurface Addingham's George Street is well on course with more than half the needed cash raised already.
Jane Scott, of Addingham Civic Society, said a bazaar held at the Memorial Hall had raised around £700. As well as stalls there was a 'name the doll' competition which was won by Janet Kelly. When the £700 was added to other recent donations, the total so far came to £5,500.
George Street runs from Main Street behind the post office and is well used by many residents. The civic society wants to improve its looks and make it safer for residents and other pedestrians to walk along. The total cost of the work is expected to be around £9,000.
Mrs Scott said she wanted to thank everyone who had so far contributed to the cause in any way, especially those who gave donations. She said that there was now a collecting tin in the Post Office for anyone who wanted to make a contribution to the fund.
The civic society is confident that the project will be completed in spring.
