One of Otley's most distinctive shops looks set to be snapped up by a potential buyer - but it will not be used as a retail outlet.
The former Manor House China shop, in Manor Square, will be turned into office space if the potential buyer's planning application is approved.
There are concerns that the historic building, which has been used as a shop for more than 20 years, should remain as a retail property to boost Otley's commercial trade in the town centre.
Councillor Phil Coyne (Labour, Otley and Wharfedale) expressed fears about one of the town's most high-profile shops being turned into offices.
He said: "I personally have reservations about more office space in the centre of town at that point.
"It is an important space and should contribute to the vitality of the town."
Roger Hall of Dacre Son and Hartley, the Estate Agents managing the sale said: "The buyers are hoping to get planning permission for office use.
"It is one of the best looking buildings in Otley. It is a Grade II listed building and there is very little that they can do to change the appearance of it."
