Graham Jarvis ended Dougie Lampkin's win-ning streak on Friday in Toulouse with a dra-matic tie-break finale in front of six thousand French spectators. The fans almost lifted the roof when the battling Brits clashed in the fi-nal.
For Jarvis it was a dream victory after collecting a new factory Bultaco from Barcelona on Wednesday after-noon.
The course was due to be set out on 'islands' in a water filled arena, with competitors roar-ing in on jetskis but the water just ran away and left the sections high and dry.
Lampkin took the quali-fier win from Marcel Justribo and Jarvis with Steve Colley trailing in fourth but at least mak-ing the final quartet. The seven sections tested Jarvis and Lamp-kin who both ended on six . Lampkin went into the tie-breaker rock section and elected to let Jarvis go first and he shot round in 35 sec-onds.
Lampkin charged through the section in 23 seconds but his front wheel had slipped within a yard of the start and the fast time made no difference.
The following day Lampkin won the tie-breaker to set him up for this weekend's World Champion qualifier in Valencia, Spain.
