AROUND 100 people turned up to see the Bishop of Bradford, The Rt Rev David Smith, officially open the new church hall extension at Saint Peter's Parish Church, Addingham.
Rev Andrew Tawn Rector of St Peter's said the occasion proved a great success with the hall being packed with people for refreshments after the ceremony.
"It looked as if there was enough to feed the 5,000 but it all went," said Rev Tawn.
The hall, which was originally constructed in 1968, is built on the site of an ancient Christian burial ground.
During the construction of the extension, archaeologists exhumed skeletons which dated from between the eighth and tenth centuries proving that Christians had worshipped in the Addingham area for at least 1,000 years.
The bones are still being examined by archaeologists and Rev Tawn said when their researches had been completed it was hoped they would be reburied.
