day with Rusedski
Bradford policeman Colin Campbell and his Grove Hill Tennis Club playing partner James Booker enjoyed a dream day with Greg Rusedski as the prize for winning an Austin Reed competition.
Members at Grove Hill (Otley) and Ilkley, the pair met the world No 14 at Queen's Club in London.
"It was an all-expenses paid trip and we got there early having stayed overnight in a hotel," said Campbell.
"That meant we managed to get in two sessions with Rusedski.cIt was absolutely brilliant, and it is amazing what two hours of tennis with him can do to improve your game.
"It certainly renewed my serve. He unleashed one massive delivery down the middle of the court just to show us the mechanics of the action, and he then gave me some tips - we are both left-handers - on how too improve my serve.
"Before lunch we were taught court-craft and then afterwards we played an American (round robin) tournament which James and I won to each earn £150 of Austin Reed vouchers.
"Then we had a go at real tennis, which is played with a very heavy, old wooden racquet and a ball so hard that it is more like a cricket ball than anything."
Campbell, who won a doubles bronze medal in the World Police-Fire Games in Stockholm early last year with Colin Mackenzie (Longley), added: "We only had an hour at that so we didn't have time to learn the rules, but it was pretty interesting."
