Guiseley RANGERS 56
Brighouse RANGERS 6
GUISELEY Rangers continued their winning run with this emphatic display to complete a league double over their visitors.
Playing down the slope in the first-half Guiseley made big inroads into the visitors' half with prop Craig McLoughlin, hooker Simon Carbutt and Mike Smith paving the way for a Tony Smith try.
Plenty of possession led to six further tries before the break and these came from Simon Carbutt, Peter Smith, Andy Hinchliffe, Darren Clayton and Mike Smith (2).
Guiseley led 40-0 going into the second period and the visitors were again on the backfoot when Hinchliffe caught the defence flat-footed and scooted behind the posts. Some great handling and running off the ball put Peter Smith over for his second try and then some poor covering allowed Brighouse a consolation try.
Hinchliffe then completed his hat-trick. Stuart Kay had his kicking boots on and he was successful with eight attempts.
This was a very satisfactory performance by Guiseley in their quest for league honours.
l On Saturday Guiseley travel to Morley Borough of Division Four of the Pennine League for a Leeds and District Burton Cup tie. Travel will be by car leaving Towngate at 12.30 pm.
Rangers Under-10s were involved in a very physical match with Milnrow and were soon behind. Two of the tries came from very basic errors by Guiseley and they will have to work on eradicating these from their play.
Props Zoe Sample and Robert Butterfield put in some very strong runs but some of the defensive play was poor. Guiseley's solitary try came from Robert Butterfield while Oliver Watson added the conversion but it was to no avail as Milnrow won 20-6.
On Sunday the Under-10s visit Keighley Cougars and players and parents should meet at the dressing rooms at 9 am.
The Under-9s display at Boothtown did not live up to expectations and they were on the wrong end of a big scoreline.
They did manage to score six tries through Liam Cree (2), Chris Kaye, Jordan Clayton, Luke Exley and Thomas Brearley with Cree and Kaye adding the conversions.
l On Sunday the Under-9s entertain West Craven Warriors kicking-off at 11.30 am.
The newly formed Under-8s played their first ever league game at home to West Bowling. It was a cracking match with plenty of commitment and enthusiasm. Every player was a real credit to the club.
Edwin Clements scored two tries with Dean Bowles and Jonathan Bottomley getting one each. Dean and Jonathan both added conversions.
It was a tremendous game with both teams involved in a thriller.
l On Sunday the Under-8s entertain Elland Boxers kicking-off at 11 am.
On Friday evening there will be a parents and players' social evening at Guiseley Conservative Club when the Under-8s new kit will be presented by sponsors IHS. Hopefully Ronnie the Rhino will make an appearance along with some of the Leeds Rhinos players. The event starts at 7.30 pm.
