Ilkley'S Rebecca West made history at the weekend as she celebrated her wedding in a shower of popcorn.
Earlier this month the Gazette revealed the former Ilkley Grammar School pupil's plans to marry her fiancee, Brett Taylor, at the Odeon Cinema in London's Leicester Square.
Saturday was Rebecca and Brett's big day and the cinema buffs made history by becoming the first couple to exchange vows at a venue
more used to hosting glitzy film premieres.
Rebecca, 31, and Brett, 32, are both frequent visitors to the cinema, the bride is a former usherette and her married name is technically Elizabeth Taylor (Elizabeth being her official christian name).
Although she now lives in Notting Hill, London, Rebecca made sure there was a strong Ilkley presence at the wedding.
Father, Peter West, and a large number of Ilkley residents past and present travelled down to London for the big day.
Many of the guests turned up in fancy dress, to really add to the movie theme of the wedding.
The bride herself was donned in white leather for the occasion. As she made her way down the aisle, the cinema organ rose from the floor and a variety of movie themes entertained the congregation.
After emerging from the cinema following the ceremony, Rebecca was asked what she had enjoyed best about the day. "The fact we are now married," she said.
As the ceremony took place, giant images of a couple kissing, provided the background - a scene from the couple's favourite film, Cinema Paradiso.
The proud father of the bride said: "It was a wonderful occasion and a lovely venue. The art dcor of the cinema was beautifully opposed by the words of the registrar. The sun was shining and there was a terrific view of Leicester Square from the circle bar."
Despite the glitzy feel to proceedings, there was no question of ignoring the Yorkshire influence - guests dined on fish and chips at the official reception. The couple's wedding also introduced a new element to the traditional wedding - bridesmaids are out, space girls are in (roles filled by Rebecca's sister and a friend).
The couple are pictured left with popcorn as confetti. (s)
