Councillors have been given night-time safety warnings after a member's car was smashed following a council meeting.
All 90 members will receive letters about the break-in which will also warn them to ensure they are safe after night meetings.
Council leader, Councillor Ian Greenwood said: "I am particularly concerned about the safety of members as they are in the dark at unsociable times after meetings. We want them to be aware of what can happen.
"In this case it is alarming to think that a member himself could have been attacked."
The Council is also contacting the owners of the National Car Park multi-storey in Hall Ings with its concerns about security.
Councillor Barry Thorne, whose car was broken into on an upper floor, said he had been told the CCTV security system only served the ground floor.
He said he had been unaware his car was not being observed because notices telling would-be thieves that CCTV was operating gave the impression it was throughout the building. A window was broken and the radio taken from his car.
Coun Thorne, executive member for Leisure, Culture and the Arts, said: "This is a big company and I think they should step up security."
But an NCP spokeswoman said the company had CCTV coverage at the entrance and exit of Hall Ings car park and had received a quality standard award for its security.
