Otley TOWN 2
OVERTHORPE 0
TWO goals from James Firth gave Otley Town a hard-earned but well-deserved victory over spirited rivals Overthorpe whose play belied their lowly league position.
In pretty horrible conditions Town coped well to regain top spot in Division One of the Mumtaz West Riding County Amateur League.
Their great rivals Stump Cross had to share the spoils with their opponents Ardsley Celtic who take on Town on Saturday.
Town dominated from the outset but despite territorial advantage they were unable to capitalise as the conditions proved a leveller and patience was the name of the game.
When Town eventually broke the deadlock on 70 minutes it was in some style.
A beautifully struck diagonal ball from Joe Lunn found Carl Kernick in space and his cross into the box was met at close range by Town's leading scorer Firthwho went on to notch his sixteenth goal of the season.
Less than a minute later Firth struck again and the points were Town's.
