WINSFORD 4
Guiseley 2
This game had everything but commitment from a Guiseley team which is speeding towards the relegation zone at a rapid pace. Manager Bobby Davison has a big job on his hands to breathe some life into a squad who now have nothing but pride and a higher league placing to play for.
How far removed was this performance from those given when Guiseley knocked Conference leaders Nuneaton Borough out of two FA competitions.
Davison was rightly seething after this lacklustre display in which 38 year-old Andy Williams gave a lead which was not followed by his younger colleagues. Williams produced an outstanding effort and he was one of just two players Davison exempted from criticism after the defeat by the league's basment club - their first win of the season.
The other was Tony Agana who despite an injury turned out to bolster an attack which was missing the suspended Simon Parke.
The match kicked off 30 minutes late when players were held up by a motorway crash. The delay did not seem to have affected Guiseley when they raced out of the starting blocks and were 2-0 up within six minutes.
Agana gave them the perfect start heading in Simon Ireland's corner in the second minute. Guiseley then made it 2-0 in the sixth minute when Ireland's persistence paid off as he chased a high ball and placed a right foot shot wide of the 'keeper.
Winsford, who had jolted Guiseley the previous week by taking a 2-0 lead, then hit back and after just 22 minutes were ahead at 3-2.
In the tenth minute Brad Pate caught Guiseley 'keeper James Shutt off guard with a good shot from 12 yards.
Winsford then grabbed the initiative and levelled in the 15th minute when some bad defending let Steve Shaughnessy in and his looping header evaded Shutt.
Winsford continued to press and show a thirst for the game which Guiseley were lacking. They got their noses in front in the 22nd minute when Lloyd Richardson produced a blockbuster from all of 30 yards which gained some assistance from the strong wind.
Guiseley got a half-time roasting from Davison and they came out to enjoy much the better of the possession but again fell to the sucker punch when Danny Worthington clincially finished after a quick breakaway to give his side a 4-2 lead.
The game was over from Guiseley's point of view and what a sickener it was for their faithful followers. Guiseley will need to show much more effort than this if they are to improve their precarious league position.
l On Saturday Guiseley are on their travels once more when they visit Droylsden and then on Tuesday they entertain Frickley Athletic (7.30 pm).
The Reserves, whose home game with Macclesfield last Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, are due to entertain Marine on Saturday with a 3 pm kick-off.
Guiseley Academy.....6
Harrogate Town.........2
On Tuesday night Guiseley's Academy Under-19 side trounced visitors Harrogate Town 6-2 after a goalless first-half.
The eventful first-half should have produced a stack of goals but a combination of bad luck, good goalkeeping, indifferent finishing and the failure to award an obvious penalty to Guiseley meant there was no score at the break.
Harrogate came out for the second-half to take the lead when Brown smashed the ball past Ed Neale after hesitancy in the Guiseley defence.
This turned out to be the visitors' undoing as Guiseley unleashed a severe backlash racing into a 4-1 lead with strikes from Lee Reilly (2), Danny McCartney and Andrew Butler.
Harrogate's collapse was completed when Reilly completed his hat-trick and Andy Holden rounded off the scoring.
Inbetween Harrogate pulled a goal back but in truth the game was well and truly lost to them at that stage.
Lee Reilly, Andrew Butler, Andrew Holden and Danny McCartney were the key players for Guiseley while left-back Phil Snell worked hard.
Guiseley are starting to look an experienced side with seven of the side having now had experience with the reserves.
