Wanderers and Nelson 'A' are level pegging in second place in the First Division of the Keighley Table Tennis League.
Wanderers snatched a narrow 6-4 victor when the teams met last week. Steve Taylor beat David Ayrton 21-12, 21-17 to add to wins over Catherine Lawson and Michael Wrigley. Paul Farley won two including a marathon 18-21, 22-20, 21-12 victory over Lawson and a victory for Neil Foley against Wrigley saw the visitors take a three point advantage into the doubles. This was cut to just two as Ayrton and Wrigley teamed up to defeat Foley and Farley 18-21, 21-15, 21-18.
Ukrainians extended their lead at the top with a 7-3 victory at home to Lothersdale 'A'. Peter Holbrook was back on top form with a maximum and added Stef Szczur two wins. A couple for Bob Davis and one for Sugden finished the scoring for the visitors as Holbrook and Szczur wrapped up proceedings for the Ukies with an exciting doubles win against Davis and Sugden.
The promotion challenge of Lothersdale 'B' in the Second Division looked to be ebbing away but a 10-0 success at Nelson 'B' saw them leap into second place and the promotion push is very much back on. Peter Midgley beat Tom Lacey to inspire Lothersdale. Martin Connolly followed the example of Midgley with a 17-21, 21-11, 21-11 defeat of Bill Mitchell and Edgar Klava hammered Andy Allott 21-18, 21-5.
There was no way back for Nelson as Midgley and Connolly continued their 100 per cent record in the doubles with a 21-23, 21-12, 21-10 win over Lacey and Mitchell.
The clash of the top two in Division Three saw second placed Oakbank Juniors draw level with leaders Terriers 'C' thanks to a narrow 6-4 victory. Katie Lightowler and Nick Clegg finished with full houses for Oakbank, although Ronnie Farrar pushed Lightowler hard before conceding 21-14, 21-23, 21-14. The Terriers trio managed to take points off Sam Fuller but a 20-22, 21-14, 21-14 win for Farrar and Steve Wands was the only other success for the hosts.
The derby match between Ilkley Road 'B' and 'C' ended with an emphatic 7-3 win for the 'C' team. Phil Singleton worked hard for his three, although both Karl McIntyre and Chris Dunn pushed him to a decider. Chris Gill did well for the winners with a couple against McIntyreand Rob Mclean, but could do nothing against an inspired Dunn, going down 21-10, 21-3.
