THREE late goals came close to pulling off a spectacular fight back after Phoenix suffered a first half nightmare in their County Cup clash with Campion.

The Keighley side were 4-0 down when they launched their do-or-die effort in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Dale Hoyle put them on the score sheet and Phoenix suddenly realised they could still snatch a place in the quarter-finals.

Torrential rain and high winds played havoc with Phoenix's usual measured style of play in the first half as they fought for a replay victory after they had draw 3-3 after extra time in a thrilling game at Manningham Mills the previous weekend.

Both teams struggled with the conditions, but it was the Bradford side which broke the deadlock after they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Phoenix failed to clear Andy McGregor's free kick, they survived a slurry of shots with Andy Yates and Chris Peltier blasting the ball goalwards, but it rebounded to Dennis Lewis who made no mistake from inside the six yard box.

Five minutes later Campion scored they second goal when Phoenix keeper paul Linyard could not get to McGregor's low shot.

The visitors had a comfortable 2-0 lead at the break, and Phoenix's cup hopes looked to be dead in the water after Yates rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into an empty net after 62 minutes. Campion rubbed salt into the wounds with Yates scoring their fourth goal with 20 minutes to go.

Phoenix had already been reduced to 10 men with Rob Horton sent off for a second bookable offence, but then came Hoyle's opening goal.

Substitute Martin Ross added a second when the Campion goal failed to clear a corner, but the Bradford side failed to realise the danger they were in. Hoyle scored from the penalty spot in the dying minutes of the match, but despite a hectic final period Phoenix could not force an equaliser.
