Bradford City's goalkeeping problems have worsened with the news that Gary Walsh has undergone a second knee operation.
The 31-year-old player underwent exploratory surgery on the same knee which required an operation in November.
Manager Paul Jewell said: "At first he made progress after his operation, but he then began to get more pain in another part of the knee. So the surgeon felt it would be better to another look inside it."
His operation came just hours after the news that Portuguese striker Jorge Cadete who was due to sign on loan from Benfica until the end of the season has had to return home to recover from illness and injury.
City are also without Matt Clarke who did so well after taking over from Walsh.
Clarke is out of action for six to eight weeks after damaging medial ligaments in the 3-2 home win over Watford two and a half weeks ago.
To cover the crisis City have extended the loan spell of goalkeeper Aidan Davison from Sheffield United for a third month which will take him until after the match at Spurs on Saturday, March 4.
At the same time they have signed former Everton keeper Neville Southall on a match-by-match basis.
"The goalkeeper situation will have to be addressed," said Jewell who was full of praise for Davison's performance in the 2-1 win over Arsenal.
It was his first full match since he joined City at the end of November and Jewell said: "I thought he did very well.
"Aidan played his part in us getting in the Premier League with his performances that helped to keep us up in the First Division when he was here three years ago. He has a close affinity with the club and I regard him as a bit of a talisman."
Eighteen-year-old Danny Taylor will play in goal in the FA Premier Reserve League match against Liverpool tonight (7pm) at St Helens' rugby league ground at Knowsley Road.
The side includes striker Lee Mills, now recovered from a hamstring injury. Mills, City's leading scorer last season, has been linked with a move to Huddersfield Town, but Jewell said: "I don't know anything about it."
City Reserves: Taylor, Wright, Todd, Kerr, Dreyer, Bower, Grant, Redfearn, Mills, Blake, Sharpe. Subs: Patterson, Worsnop, Dufton, Whiteley, Hardy.
