The winner of the event on Sunday, March 12 at The Clubhouse In Cue gardens, Odsal will face either Steve Davis or John Virgo the following Saturday evening at the nearby Richard Dunn Sports Centre.

Entries for the amateur challenge close at 10.45am and play begins at 11am, with Eric Hodgkinson again the organiser.

Last year's winner was Craig Butler, who had the chance to play a frame against Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Women's world snooker No 1 Kelly Fisher is back in West Yorkshire on Sunday.

Having beaten David Baluk 3-0 in a battle of the sexes at Sunnybank Social Club in Silsden last week, the 21-year-old is at Cue Gardens for the Yorkshire Region matches in the Strachans English Amateur Championship.

Pontefract-based Fisher meets Howard Brazil (Leeds), with the winner facing Craig Taylor (Thorne) or David Dalton (Sheffield).

Bradford's Wayne Cooper takes on Paul Metcalf (Grimsby) in another first round clash, the victor facing Kuldesh Johal (Huddersfield) or Kevin Robinson (Leeds) to qualify.

Bradford could have a derby battle for the qualification spot in another group. Sajid Khan and Martin Unsworth are the Bradford players concerned. But first Khan must beat Chris Sutton (Grimsby) and Unsworth has to defeat Peter Bardsley (Sheffield).

John Gallagher (Halifax) is the first round obstacle for host club member Craig Butler (Bramley), the winner meeting either Robert Oldfield (Goole) or Carlo Giagnacovo (Sheffield).

The fifth group contains no West Yorkshire players, Alan Edmonds (Grimsby) meeting Kevin Johnstone (Sheffield) and Adam Chalkley (Barnsley) facing Chris Leake (Scunthorpe).

Play begins at 11am and all matches are best-of-seven frames with 20 players competing for five places in the national last 64.

Bradford, 7-0 winners over Wharfedale, are unchanged for their Yorkshire Inter-District League match against Leeds No 2 at Pudsey Conservative Club on Saturday (7.30pm).

Bradford team players had mixed fortunes in the Bradford Championships.

In the snooker, Matthew Holt (Idle Cricket Club) lost 4-1 to Howard Mawson (Regal) in a battle of former runners-up, but Kevin Firth (Wibsey Cons) defeated two-times winner Tony Emmott (East Ward Labour Club).

In the billiards event, Brian Mullaney (Lilycroft WMC) fell 600-572 to Steve Wilman (Harold Club).

First leg matches in the second round of the Moorhouse Shield team billiards tournament are tonight, with the second legs on Thursday, February 24.
