Keighley schools Bronte and Oakbank took the honours at the middle and upper schools' swimming gala organised by Bingley Swimming Club.

Bronte won the main event and the Barry Watson mixed relay team race for middle schools. Oakbank completed a similar double in the upper schools' section after some close finishes.

Bingley Grammar School were runners-up in both events.

It was the last gala to be organised by the club before education in the Bradford District is re-organised from a three- to a two-tier system at the end of the current school year.

The club will continue to organise swimming galas for the two-tier system and next year's event is already in the planning stages.

Trophies and certificates were presented by the club president Arthur Pitchforth and his wife Mary.
