This week a technological revolution came to fruition at the Keighley News.
We still have some way to go - but we became one of the first weekly newspapers in the land to switch to digital photography.
Obviously we still have our filed negatives and prints - but in future the vast majority of all our photographs will be electronic images which will be stored on CDs.
What must be stressed is that our photo-sales are not affected one bit. In fact, I hope our service will be enhanced.
Once the system has settled down and any teething troubles dealt with, my hope is that we will have a computer in our front office. Readers will be able to pop-in and browse the picture library, select which picture they want and it will be automatically printed. That is some way down the line. The other hope is that we will be able to make our photographs available through our website so they can be seen and bought from anywhere in the world. That again is in the future - but I am particularly proud that once again the team here at the Keighley News has played a major part in leading the way for the future, while at the same time providing the same high standard of local service.
With all these changes, a cartoon in a national Sunday newspaper tickled me. It showed a man and wife sitting in front of the television with him remarking that the kids were upstairs watching a DVD movie on their computer while they surfed the Internet on the TV.
