Silsden golfer Malcolm Mawson has been installed as the new president of Bradford & District Union of Golf Clubs.
Malcolm, 52, is a former captain and president of Silsden Golf Club, where he has been a member for the last 12 years, and is chairman of the club's development sub-committee. He has been a member of Keighley Golf Club for the last six years, and has represented both clubs in the 8-15 league.
He says the Bradford Union presidency is a great honour both for himself and for Silsden Golf Club. "It is particularly special because it is Millennium year, and because it is the year in which Silsden will open the doors on a long-awaited new clubhouse and 18-hole golf course," he says.
"I am hoping to maintain the fine traditions established by previous holders of this office, and I know that I will enjoy myself at the same time. I am looking forward to meeting lots of new golfing friends."
A retired Detective Superintendent, Malcolm has played golf for the last 16 years and is now off 10 handicap. He is a regular caddy for Keighley professional Mike Bradley, and carried his bag at the Open at Royal Troon in 1997.
n Teams and sponsors are being sought for a charity golf day in aid of Manorlands, the Sue Ryder home at Oxenhope.

Mrs Chris Bown, who chairs the Support Group, hopes local and national businesses will come forward to enter teams and sponsor a range of prizes - including three team prizes as well as individual winner, longest drive and nearest the pins.
Anyone interested should contact Chris on 01535 606320.
