Keighley Albion Cats 70 Crosfields 5 - The Cats completed their Conference programme last Sunday with a thirteen try demolition of bottom of the table Crosfields.
Although it was a fine all round team performance this really was the Laura Ackroyd show, Albion's skipper, weighing in with five tries and nine conversions. As the score line suggests it was pretty much one way traffic but for the first quarter Crosfields gave as good as they got and made Keighley work hard for their points.
Sarah Cartwright opened the scoring with a typical try, sprinting around the outside and beating the cover with sheer speed. Ackroyd then got the first of hers, dummying her way over from twenty metres. Cartwright then added a second before Crosfields pegged back the Cats with a drop goal and then a try. From then on it was all Keighley with tries coming at regular intervals, Ackroyd added a second, Cartwright completed her hat trick, dribbling over from close range.
Tracy Lynch scored a fine individual try on the last tackle and Leanne Ludlam also touched down. After the break the game followed the same pattern with Ackroyd completing a second half hat trick, all individual efforts.
Linzi Goodwin scored her first try for the club, Lynch reprised her first half try and full back Gemma Liddon brought the house down with the try of the game, appearing to dodge through the entire Crosfields team before diving over near the posts. Not surprisngly, with her virtuoso performance, Ackroyd took the player of the match award. So, the
Cats have completed a very successful first phase of the season and they now have a week's rest before getting down to the serious business of qualifying for the National Premier Division.
