Keighley Town 52 Odsal Sedberg 14 - Keighley Town returned to action after a three week break and showed that the rest had done them no harm -- bouncing back with a nine try demolition of Odsal Sedberg.
Twenty minutes of superb attacking rugby and determined defence gave Town the platform they needed to gain two league points and massive confidence boost.
Gary Marples led the way with a ht-trick of tries on his first team debut. Tony Metcalf bagged a pair and there was one each from Daz Lynam, Wayne McCombe, Mark Fudge and Neil Kennedy. Fudge kicked five goals and Kennedy kicked three.
Brian Ingham picked up the man of the match award, closely followed by Darren Lynam.
Keighley Albion 'A' 30
Boothtown Terriers 38
Albion paid the price for a very apathetic first half against a more committed Halifax side. In a total contrast to their effort and commitment of the previous week at Hunslet the Keighley side were comprehensively beaten for the first 50 minutes of this encounter and got their act together too late to save the day.
The first half was not one to savour, the usually strong defence leaked various Terriers' attacks and by half-time Albion had conceded 5 tries with only a Gary Baxter try and Danny Bowness conversion to show that Albion were in the match at all.
Throughout this spell only the youngsters Ayden Blackburn at scrum-half and Andy Bailey at loose-forward were showing the effort and skill required at this level. Despite their striving the score at the break was 28 - 6.
The second half started ominously like more of the same, with the visitors running in a quick try through a static defence. However this stung Albion into action, Captain Glen Palmer started to dictate play from stand-off and Andy Bailey was soon rewarded for his probing runs with a try. Bailey followed this up quickly with another in similar fashion, using his speed and strength to go in from 20 metres out.
Boothtown replied with a fortunate try from a speculative kick but from then they did not look like scoring as the Albion defence stepped up another gear. Andy Bailey then achieved his hat-trick (scoring all three tries in 15 minutes) and Danny Bowness converted. With an Ian Anderson try coming from an astute Gary Baxter pass it looked like they might steal the game.
The Terriers had other plans and held out, though a Pete Jeffries try with Glen Palmer adding the kick made the score respectable it was Boothtown who took the points. Albion are at home next Saturday to Underbank Rangers
