Addingham'S George Street millennium project has been boosted by a sudden surge of generosity.
Members of Addingham Civic Society are working hard to raise about £9,000, the amount need to fund the resurfacing of George Street.
The street, which runs behind the village post office, is well used but in a poor state. The civic society is determined to restore it to its former glory - a plan first revealed in February last year.
In the Ilkley Gazette edition of January 20 we reported the George Street appeal had topped £5,500.
However, Don Barrett of the society, said this week: "Money has been pouring in and the total is now nearly £7,000."
A bazaar netted £700 and individual contributions of various amounts continue to be received, said Mr Barrett.
A collection box has been placed in the post office and donations can also be sent to treasurer Terry Wilson.
Mr Barrett said: "All this goes to show the enthusiastic level of support in the village for this project and the committee is sure that we will very soon be in a position to place a definite order with Clay's of Addingham."
