THE president of the Ilkley and District Motor Club, Chris Tindall, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, and his wife Ann, welcomed over 200 members and guests to the club's annual dinner dance and prize presentation at the Craiglands Hotel, Ilkley.
The magnificent display of awards was once again a credit to the hard work of Wendy and Nigel Sykes and the winners were announced by club secretary Nick Pullan. The awards were presented by Mrs Ann Tindall, after which she was presented with a bouquet in the club's colours of mauve and white by Mrs Hazel Pullan. The popular tombola was once again organised by Francis and Jane Tindall and the evening continued with dancing until 1.00am.
Major award winners were: Postlethwaite Trophy - Henry Kitching and Ian Waddington (joint best competitors on club nights); Kleber Concorde Trophy - Adele Mosey (best lady competitor on club nights); Trade Member's Cup - John Haygarth (closed to club autotest champion); Clifford Hobson Memorial Trophy - Francis Tindall (closed to club pct champion); G E Milnes Fastest Time Trophy - Neil Raven (second o/a closed to club autotest champion); G E Milnes President's Trophy - Sioned Kitchen (second o/a closed to club pct champion).
Skipton Rally Trophy - Charlie Binns and Jamie Forrest (navigational scatter champions); Brooke's Trophy - Sioned Kitchen (best lady in navigational scatter championship); YEP TT Number One Trophy - Dave Chapman (champion road rally driver); YEP TT Number Two Trophy - Iain Tullie (champion road rally navigator); Payne and Robinson Trophy - Mark Hayley (champion stage rally driver); Bastow Trophy - Nick Johnstone (champion stage rally navigator).
Fred Waite Trophy - David Mosey (club autotest champion); Rosedale Trophy - Malcolm Rainforth (club production car trial champion); Shell Oils Cup - David Mosey (leading Larkspeed competitor); Abe Farrar Memorial Trophy - Jamie Forrest (leading 'Under-25' Larkspeed competitor); M S Tullie Trophy - Francis Tindall (best 'Over-45' competitor); Scott Practice Bowl - Peter Tindall (best 'Under-23' competitor); Scribe of the Year - Neil Raven (most meritorious write-ups for Newsletter).
Kath and Charles Smith Memorial Trophy - Bryan and Janet Kitching (awarded to a couple for their work on behalf of the club); J S Duxbury Memorial Salver - Adele Mosey (promoting the club's name); English Trophy - Marc Smoley (best gentleman marshal); Mangham and Moore Trophy - Pat Sands (best lady marshal); Special Reliability Trophy - John Harris (second best gentleman marshal); Hemingway Trophy - Kath Wheater (second best lady marshal); Trier's Trophy - Alice Moorhouse (most consistent trier).
Holmes Trophy - Francis Tindall (best all-round club member); Bill Whiteley Memorial Salver - Iain Tullie (service to the president during the year); Triumph Trophy - Nigel Bromley (member scoring most group points on motor-cycle events); Ilkley Rosedale Trophy - Paul Nutter (club spring and hill climb champion); Club Colours - Jamie Forrest and Richard Wood (services to the club).
Awards were also presented to the 27 members of the Larkspeed League team led by Jamie Forrest, which had won the Yorkshire-based league for an unprecedented fifth year in succession.Having also been declared the Bradstock MSA Club of the Year for 1999, the club goes forward into the new Millennium with renewed enthusiasm and anticipation.
