Paul Jewell is looking forward to welcoming Jorge Cadete to Bradford City after receiving encouraging reports about the striker's fitness battle.
The 31-year-old Benfica ace agreed to join City on loan until the end of the season ten days ago but had to return to Portugal because of a combination of flu and a hamstring injury.
But City have now been told Cadete has recovered from the injury and his agent Paul Borbosa claims the striker will fly in on Friday.
Jewell said: "We have had a fax from his agent to say that his fitness is coming along.
"It was always the hamstring which was the main concern rather than the flu.
"We could not put him through a medical until he had recovered from the hamstring injury.
"The gist of the fax was that he has been doing some running and we are now waiting for a call from his agent."
Cadete, who watched City's 2-1 win over Arsenal, was full of praise for the Bantams during his visit to Bradford.
Borbosa said: "He is fully recovered from both his flu and his injury and he should be over all being well this Friday to undergo a medical.
"Jorge will be arriving with his family, and once he completes the medical he will just be looking forward to training and playing with Bradford."
Cadete has not started a game for Benfica this season and is keen for a fresh start in the Premiership.
He enjoyed a phenomenally successful 12 months with Celtic four years ago when he scored a staggering 38 goals in 49 appearances.
Ironically, since City's interest in Cadete was made public, the club have buried the unwanted record of being the Premiership's lowest scorers with nine goals in their last three games.
Meanwhile, City's reserve side are looking to bounce back from last week's thumping at Liverpool when they entertain Sheffield Wednesday tonight at 7pm.
The Bantams are second in the FA Premier Reserve League North, but the 4-0 drubbing against the leaders last week means the title looks to be out of their grasp.
City's assistant manager Chris Hutchings said: "It is important to bounce back because the boys didn't perform against Liverpool.
"It was a hiccup after some great performances so it is up to the lads to bounce back against Sheffield Wednesday."
