Bradford City look set to finally get their man when Jorge Cadete wings in to Valley Parade this weekend to complete his switch to the Premiership.
And the Portuguese striker could go straight into the squad for next week's clash with Aston Villa if he passes his medical.
Cadete agreed to join City two weeks ago but due to flu and a hamstring injury he was unable to complete a medical.
The player's agent claimed in the Telegraph & Argus earlier this week that the 31-year-old would be arriving in Bradford today.
However Jewell said: "I read the report about Jorge arriving on Friday but we had received no confirmation of his intended arrival date until I got a phone call yesterday afternoon.
"It confirmed he will be here over the weekend. Once the deal had been agreed before the Arsenal match, we told him not to come back to Bradford until he was fit.
"His agent says he is now fully fit and we will engage him in training. It will be good to see him here as part of our squad.
"The pleasing thing for me is that since news leaked out about us trying to bring a striker in, the people in possession of the jerseys have reacted superbly.
"Jorge Cadete is no different from anyone in that he will have to earn his place in the side. Just because another striker is coming to the club does not mean one of the existing ones will be squeezed out."
Cadete agreed terms with chairman Geoffrey Richmond two weeks ago and will join his new team-mates at training for the first time on Monday if he passes the medical.
The 31-year-old striker has been out of favour at Benfica and has not started a game this season.
However Cadete, who was an impressed spectator when City beat Arsenal 2-1, is relishing the chance to revive his career and try to rediscover the goalscoring touch he had at Celtic.
He grabbed an awesome 38 goals in 49 appearances during his 12-month spell with the Bhoys before returning to Portugal in the summer of 1997.
Ironically, since news of the interest in Cadete leaked out the Bantams have buried their unwanted record as the Premiership's lowest scorers with nine goals in just three games.
City have a blank weekend due to the FA Cup quarter-finals but Jewell is looking forward to the home clash with Aston Villa in eight days time.
