DESPITE things not having gone as well as they would have liked on or off the field this season Guiseley AFC continue to seek ways to fund their league programme in the UniBond Premier Division as well as running reserve and Academy teams.
To this end they are continually looking at new ways to make money and they are embarking upon a new lottery scheme which it is claimed is second only to the National Lottery in terms of prizes.
The club has signed up to take part in the 'Great Weather Game' which offers a £10,000 prize daily for a weekly investment of just one pound.
The lottery is based on recorded daily temperatures as reported in the Daily Telegraph.
Commercial Manager at Guiseley AFC Les Wood said: 'We will be running this new lottery alongside our well established Saturday Yankee Lottery, not instead of. It is run on a bankers standing order so there is no collecting to do. Entry forms are available from me by ringing 0113 2509181 or by collecting them from the club bar. This is an exciting new venture and one we hope will be profitable for the club as well as providing people with a chance to win £10,000 every day of the week.'
Prizewinners don't need to check the papers every day as the organisers check by computer and prizes are paid put automatically.
The lottery is based on picking six numbers and even if you do not match all six, prizes will be paid out for matching three, four or five numbers.
The frustrations of the club's continued inability to gain planning decisions to enable them to improve facilities at the council-owned Nethermoor Park ground and a lack of decent training facilities locally as well as a dive in form by the team appear to have led to manager Bobby Davison offering to resign after the 3-0 defeat at Droylsden.
This was an offer Chairman Phil Rogerson refused to accept and the club are now remaining tight lipped about the matter.
After a string of poor results the team had alarmingly tipped towards the relegation zone but such a strange game is football that without playing last Saturday they moved two places up the table!
However, with 18 games left to play there is ample time for Guiseley to regain the form that saw them twice defeat Conference leaders Nuneaton Borough knocking them out of both the FA Cup and the FA Trophy.
Davison's squad has been decimated by injury this season with up to eight players missing at a time. This has obviously taken its toll on the players left to hold the side together and some of them started to look very jaded.
After a weekend off with the waterlogged Nethermoor pitch causing the cancellation of Saturday's game against Barrow it is hoped that Davison's men will return refreshed for action and a new onslaught on the league table.
They were due at Gateshead last night, Wednesday, and on Saturday have a chance to redeem themselves with the home following when they take on Bamber Bridge with 3 pm kick-off.
The following Saturday they visit Blyth Spartans.
The Reserves had their game at Morecambe called off last Friday night due to a waterlogged pitch and they have no scheduled game on Saturday. They are next due out at home to Leek Town on February 26 with a 3 pm kick-off.
Guiseley's leading scorer Simon Parke is currently third highest scorer in the league with 24 goals, just four behind leader Paul Kiely of Leek Town and one behind second placed Simon Yeo of Hyde United.
Guiseley are placed second in the UniBond Premier Division's Fair Play table eight points behind Marine after 23 bookings and one red card. Bad boys Blyth have had eight reds and 64 yellows with Colwyn Bay chasing them hard for the bad boy title with six reds and 51 yellows.
