ON Monday, Ilkley Moor's Craven mixed team played away to Moorlands and came away with a 9-0 win, which keeps them well ahead at the top of Division Two. The team consisted of Sue Fortunato and Peter Gill, Viv Preston and Robert Boyle, Mandy Gill and Matthew Brown.
The Ladies team played at home on Friday to top-of-the-table Belle Vue. The team continued to show their improvement by beating the away side 6-3. Captain Joan Baker and her partner, 15 year old Harriet Smith, are going from strength to strength as a pair, and won two rubbers against the strong side. The two other pairs were Anita Maunsell and Viv Preston (3 rubbers), Mandy Gill and Sue Fortunato (1 rubber).
The Craven Annual Mixed Tournament was held on Sunday, with sixteen pairs taking part.
Ilkley Moor pairs, Sue Fortunato and Peter Gill and Viv Preston and Robert Boyle, both got through to the semi-finals.
Viv and Robert went onto the final and were narrowly beaten by Mick Bury and Carol Eldon from Croft B.C. Any badminton players interested in joining the club can contact Sue for more details on (01943) 609137.
THE Third Division mixed Ilkley Badminton Club team playing a home against Wilsden 'A' suffered a nine rubbers to love defeat. The match against this team is usually fairly evenly balanced. However, the Ilkley team played with two members with injuries and also short of a regular third man. The Fourth Division mixed team, again without two of its regular members, playing away against Keighley 'B', lost by seven rubbers to two. The team members were David Varney and Olwen Sharp, Graham Pratt and Vicky Ryan, Bob Whiting and Sue Stevens.
Graham Pratt and Vicky Ryan won the two rubbers for Ilkley. The Sixth Division mixed team, at home to Bingley, won by five rubbers to four.
Lesley Eccles and Lee Spencer once again winning three rubbers, and Janet Green and Mark Freeman winning two rubbers.
