SUCCESSFUL foundations for Ilkley's Darwin Gardens millennium scheme have been laid in more ways than one.
The millennium maze is one of the most ambitious aspects of the plan to transform West View Park at the top of Wells Road.
Foundations for the maze have now been laid by contractors acting for Crest Homes, as part of the company's commitment to the scheme. The maze itself will be laid out using 1000 flagstones, symbolising the number of years in a millennium.
Individual stones are available for dedication by individuals, community groups and businesses.
Project leader, Dr Peter Harnett, said: "Volunteers have completed planting the community wildlife hedge supported by the Forest of Bradford. The 1000th family tree was planted by 10-year-old Andrew Maclean and his father Ewan."
Some of the trees have been planted as single species 'groves' of blackthorn, crab apple, dog rose, dogwood, elder, guelder rose and hazel in suitable parts of the site.
Those wanting further information about dedications for the maze or family trees, should contact the parish clerk's office at Ilkley Town Hall.
