Ilkley Motor Club
THE annual meeting of Ilkley and District Motor Club was held at the club's headquarters, Pool Mills Sports and Social Club, where a good attendance received the reports of the officials of the club.
President Chris Tindall, of Burley-in-Wharfedale, reported on his first year which had culminated in the club winning the Larkspeed League for the fifth consecutive year and the club being named Bradstock MSA Club-of-the-Year, this year's competition having been judged on 'publicity'. With his wife Ann he had represented the club in London at the presentation of the award and had felt very honoured.
"So This Is Yorkshire" the book of the club's archive material had also been published just before Christmas, having been produced by club historian Janet Kitching, and had received good reviews.
The club had also successfully contested the ACU Main Road Trials Championship, being Yorkshire Centre Champions and West Yorkshire Group Champions, with individual honours going to David Taylor and Henry Kitching. Malcolm Rainforth had once again won the ANWCC production car trial championship and also the ANCC championship and David Mosey was the ANWCC Autotest Champion. His wife Adele had again represented England in the International Ladies' team at Autotests.
Members also regularly competed at national level in many branches of the sport and the club continued to provide support on national and local rallies by manning 'off road' stages, under the leadership of Peter Settle. Chris thanked his top table and other club officials for their work and support during the year and particularly Nick Pullan, who was retiring after four years as general secretary, and Iain Tullie, who was retiring as newsletter editor after seven years.
Nick Pullan gave his last report as general secretary and said that committee meetings continued to be well attended with an average attendance of over 40. It was noticeable that the 'wooden spoon' had been presented to the vice-presidents more times than to the committee members.
Treasurer Henry Kitching, presenting his report that the membership was very healthy with an increase in junior members and, once again, the membership was over 300. Subscriptions were to remain at the present level for another year.
In the absence of motor-cycle secretary Maurice Rispin, due to illness, his report was given by Nick Pullan. The three traditional motor-cycle events were run successfully during the year and the 50th Anniversary of the Re-union Trial had been a very pleasant event with many 'old' faces appearing both to compete and to spectate. The sunny weather had added to the atmosphere and many had taken advantage of the tea at Stump Cross Caverns.
Car competitions secretary Karen Spencer reported that all events had been successfully run during the year with good entries particularly on club night events.
There then followed the election of officials by ballot and Chris Tindall was elected president for a further year. Wendy Sykes, of Horsforth, a former newsletter editor, club award championship co-ordinator and the presents awards secretary, was elected as a vice-president.
Iain Tullie was elected as general secretary, Neil Raven as newsletter editor and Stuart Taylor as club award championship co-ordinator. Brian Sands was elected as delegate to Pool Mills committee, replacing Judith Tullie, who had died during the preceding year and was sadly missed. Elected to serve on committee for three years were Nigel Bromley, Rupert North, Neil Raven and Colin Valentine. Henry Carr, Graham Hepworth, Martin Nolan and Colin Thorpe were to serve for two years and Sioned Kitching, Karen Spencer, Emma Sykes and David Taylor have a further year.
Other officials re-elected were: Henry Kitching (treasurer and Press secretary), Mrs Sioned Kitching (membership secretary), Mrs Janet Kitching (solicitor and club historian), Messrs Richardson, Lightfoot (auditors), Mrs Jane Tindall (company secretary), Ms Karen Spencer (car competition's secretary), Maurice Rispin (motor-cycle secretary), Mr and Mrs Nigel Sykes (awards secretary), Jamie Forrest (Larkspeed League captain).
