An inquest heard how a jobless builder who was "popular with the girls'' hanged himself.

Gary Williams, 28, was found hanging from a belt on the first floor landing at his home in Elizabeth Street, Bingley, last January.

In a statement read to the hearing, his friend Alan Bainbridge said that the death came as a great shock but he thought that it may have been related to the relationships he had with his girlfriends.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Williams died from asphyxia due to hanging.

Coroner Roger Whittaker said he was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Williams intended to take his own life.

A verdict of suicide was recorded.
