The attitude of Craven District Council in relation to a number of its tenants on the Greenroyd Drive estate, Sutton smacks of the dark side of the Victorian era.
It is as though the residents should thank their lucky stars they have a roof over their heads and should be showering the council with praise for bringing homes up to a standard fit to live in.
The fact the residents are being moved out while the work is being done is common sense. But to tell the good folk they may not be able to move back into their homes - for that is what they are - is unforgivable.
Obviously with the scale of the work being carried out they cannot live in the flats while they are being upgraded. Also, it is a sign of good advanced planning that they can move into similar flats which have been modernised on the same estate while the work is done.
Some may be satisfied and accept the change - that is a bonus.
But as Cllr Steve Place says, the idea that people can be put onto a conveyor belt system, from one storage to another, is both wrong and ill-conceived.
The council should immediately talk with all concerned and give those residents who are worried an assurance that they can move back into their homes.
