Airedale 3 Normanby Park 1 - With five more games to play Airedale only need three more wins to secure a first division spot next season. The home game against Normanby Park started badly with Airedale down to 10 men. They were still able to apply pressure but always looked vulnerable on the break and the visitors took advantage of their superior numbers down the right wing creating several chances.
Airedale opened the scoring when Neil Horsman struck a hard cross in at Richard Stewart whose deflection was going well wide but for the intervention of a desperate defender who pushed the ball through his own keepers legs.
With a 1-0 lead at half time the Airedale numbers were made up to full strength with the arrival of Simon Killey. Airedale dominated the second half and created a lot of chances. Pedley found Horsman unmarked at the edge of the D with a well-struck pass and Horsman finished for the second goal. Half way through the second half Horsman was again involved as he linked with Richard Stewart down the right to open up the defence and Stewart set up Pedley for the third goal. Concentration lapsed and Normanby park were able to score an consolation goal. Airedale regained control of the game and created a few more chances Stewart's shot was saved on the line by a defender and Haigh came close.
Skipton Ladies
A friendly at home to Yorkshire Bank gave temporary relief from the pressures of the promotion battle. Mary Morris scored her ninth hat-trick of the season and man of the match Donna Templeton scored twice to secure a comfortable 5-0 victory. With only one more win needed to secure promotion to the premier league the goal scoring practice was well timed.
Airedale Ladies
Unable to pick up where they left off after their 8-0 win over Zeneca last Saturday, Airedale Ladies faced a much more challenging match against Halifax & Calder. Jo Kennedy linked up with Karen Claydon in the 1st half with a wall pass and shot from the penalty spot but was unable to beat the keeper. Minute's later central midfielder Sarah Roberts cut through the defence in a move with Georgie Roberts and powered a shot at goal from the edge of the D. Again the keeper made an important save. These were probably the best chance of the match for Airedale. Halifax and Calder upped the pace slightly scoring just before half time.
Airedale lifted their game and played much better. However they were a little unbalanced by the absence of striker Gaynor Pedley, who is out for the rest of the season.
Airedale could not turn things around. Airedale goalie Lynne Primmer produced some fine saves but was eventually beaten in the 60th minute when Halifax & Calder scored again to win 2-0.
