A SKIPTON bed company has won a prestigious title at this year's Furniture Industry Awards held at the NEC's Metropole Hotel.

Pocket Spring Bed Company, on the Snaygill Estate, was awarded Bed of the Year for its Dante model which retails at about £1,500.

Spokesman for the company Sue Towson said all 50 staff were delighted to receive the award as the competition was highly regarded by people in the industry.

The traditional hand cast and forged bed was based on an original design by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and incorporated a luxury mattress and base system to offer comfort and support.

The judges commented that the bed from the Inspirations Collection offered good value and the best of both worlds, "a beautiful bedstead together with an excellent quality pocket sprung mattress."

This is not the first time the company, which is part of the Silentnight group, has won awards for its craftsmanship. The first time was in its second year of operation in 1994 when it was awarded Newcomer of the Year at the same awards ceremony.
