Mystery still surrounds the disappearance of Ilkley postmaster David Todd.

His wife Sylvia told police officers she last saw her 51-year-old husband on Friday, February 11 at 8.15am as he went downstairs to open the shop.

She has not seen or heard from him since.

Inspector Paul Clynch, of Ilkley Police, said his officers had established from a credit card receipt that Mr Todd filled his car with petrol at a service station on the A1 in Nottinghamshire the day after his disappearance.

But the inspector said Mr Todd's parents, who live in Leicestershire which was in the vicinity, had not heard from their son that day or since.

Insp Clynch said that before his disappearance Mr Todd had been studying to become a lay preacher with the United Reformed Church.

Again the church had heard nothing since Mr Todd walked out of his place of work.

Insp Clynch said: "It is a mystery. Despite extensive inquiries nationwide we have drawn a blank.

"We need to establish that Mr Todd is safe and well and we will continue our search until he is detected.

"His wife is naturally extremely concerned because this is totally out of character and she hasn't heard anything from him since he left.

"We have ruled out kidnapping or foul play, he has just voluntarily left his home."

The inspector said Mr Todd was not suffering from any medical problems and he did not have any financial worries.

Insp Clynch said it was a puzzle why the postmaster had just got up and left.

Mr Todd is described as white, about five feet 11 inches tall, of very large build weighing 18 to 20 stones, with greying, short hair and blue/grey eyes.

He was smartly dressed in casuals at the time of his disappearance.
