A late goal from top scorer Stuart Taylor put ten man Eccleshill United through to the Northern Counties East League semi-finals 2-1 against Pontefract Collieries at Plumpton Park last night.

United had taken an early lead, but, soon after Pontefract Collieries grabbed an early second half equaliser, Eccleshill had skipper Darren Hamer dismissed.

With Hamer missing from the centre of their defence, manager Ray Price had to re-shuffle the side. Some astute substitutions ensured they kept their shape and clinch a deserved victory.

Midfielder Paul Newsome blasted them in front in the second minute when he finished a flowing move with a thundering 19-yard shot.

Despite numerous chances, United could not add to their lead and 'Ponte' levelled when Dave Brooke slotted a low shot past goalkeeper Craig Bates three minutes into the second half.

When Hamer retaliated after being tripped just after the hour he was shown a red card.

One of the substitutes introduced was Mark Senior and he had a hand in the move which presented Taylor with the eight yard shot that won the game for United eight minutes from time.

Guiseley were frustrated in their search for points in the UniBond Premier Division. Last night's meeting with Hyde United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Nethermoor.

Tonight sees Liversedge travelling to Sheffield in the last eight of the Northern Counties East League Cup looking for a win which could set up a semi-final meeting with local rivals Eccleshill.

Manager Eric Gilchrist hands a debut to 18-year-old midfielder Danny Cooper while skipper Andy Kenton (back) and Craig Lawford (knee) take time out to help their recoveries.

Wing back Paul Sweeney (ankle) is doubtful but new signing Jock Sayer is eligible because he did not play in the competition for former club Thackley.
