THE owners of Ilkley's Myddelton Lodge have put the 13th century spiritual retreat up for sale.
The news is expected to trigger a rush of international interest in what the sale agents describe as 'a unique opportunity.'
The Diocese of Leeds has reluctantly decided to sell the grade one listed building, off Langbar Road, and part of the grounds. The price guide is £750,000.
For years the lodge has played an important role in the lives of Catholics throughout the Leeds Diocese.
However, the Diocese is adamant the decision is necessary if it is to develop its commitment to young people. It is planning to use the money to build alternative accommodation on another part of the site.
